What We Do
Hope Bags exists to restore dignity, comfort, and hope to people admitted to psychiatric wards by providing essential care packs called 'Hope Bags' that support their wellbeing during a vulnerable time.
Hope Bags offer a tangible reminder of care and human worth.
At the heart of our work is the belief that no one should feel alone when facing mental health challenges, therefore our goal is to connect communities through collective empathy. The central focus of or work is priving psychiatric patients with 'Hope Bags' when they arrive in hospital. Our Hope Bags are filled with essential and self-care items, such as toiletries and wellbeing supplies. Our aim is to restore dignity and hope to patients arriving on psychiatric wards.
Hope Bags' Mission:
Reduce inequality within mental health care.
Provide hope for people in their darkest times.
Our Purpose
Hope Bags was founded on the belief that small acts of kindness can have a powerful impact. Whether that's a bag of essentials, a supportive message, or simply knowing someone cares, these moments can help people feel seen and supported when they need it most.
Who Do We Serve and How?
People Experiencing Mental Health Crises
Our primary beneficiaries are individuals admitted to psychiatric wards in hospitals across England and Wales. These people often enter are suddenly, during highly vulnerable moments, and may arrive with little or no personal belongings.
Communities Impacted by Mental Health Challenges
We will be indirectly supporting the wider community, including patients' families, carers, and support networks. We take some pressure off patients' support networks by giving them essential items. Additionally, we hope this will provide families with some comfort knowing that they are being supported and cared for in hospital, ultimately improving the relationship between families and hospital staff and making hospital stays less stressful.
The Wider Community
We organise and manage donation campaigns to source items from the public, businesses, schools, and local organisations. Donated items are collected, sorted, and quality-checked to ensure they are appropriate, relevant, and packaged with dignity. We plan to host bag packing events to engage the local community.
